Jim Polatty
Chief Operating Officer

Jim completed his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University and began working for Davis Boatworks, earning his way up from the engineering department to become a company vice president.

Polatty partnered with Jim Sculley in 1999 to form Sculley Boatbuilders. He helped Sculley build sportfishing yachts at Davis Boatworks, and in those days before Sculley Boatbuilders the two men realized a common desire to create Carolina sportfishing yachts with luxurious cabins and staterooms, durable enough to cut through rough seas and pull in favorable fish.

During this time, Jim learned who people considered the best craftsman along North Carolina 's Outer Banks, and later hand picked those he believed to be the most skilled workers, inviting them to join Sculley Boatbuilders. Many accepted the invitation, providing the company with the ability to design, build, outfit and finish each Sculley Sportfisherman in a single facility with some of the best craftsmen in the boat building industry.

"Jim Sculley wanted to build a high-end, custom-built Carolina sportfishing yacht with that South Florida-style finish that he loves, and I believed his vision would spawn one of the greatest sportfishing yachts ever created," Polatty said. "There are more than 15 boat builders in and around Wanchese, North Carolina, but the fit and finish on our boats, the quality both inside and outside, is above and beyond any other sportfishing yacht made by anybody."

Jim personally works with each client to guide and assist him or her in creating the finest luxury sportfishing yacht imaginable, one that fits their needs and fulfills their personal wishes without compromise.

Call Sculley Boatbuilders today and ask to speak with Jim Polatty. He'll let you know how his team of engineers will help make your vision of the perfect sportfishing yacht become a reailty.

About Us | Jim Sculley | Jimmy Sculley | Jim Polatty

Jim Polatty, chief operating officer of Sculley Boatbuilders, is an 18-year veteran of the boat building industry, coming from a family with a long history in the U.S. Navy. Polatty's knowledge spans three generations of seamen. His father was a line officer during WWII, and his grandfather lied about his age to join the Navy in 1910, capping off his career as a Rear Admiral 52 years later. Polatty's brother, David, also retired as a Rear Admiral in the Navy.

Jim, however, says his interests have always been with surfing rather than saluting, and he has lived along the Outer Banks since 1985.

In an article commenting on the quality and craftsmanship inherent on a Sculley Sportfishing yacht, Sportfishing Report magazine quoted Jim saying, "I think there is one thing that a lot of boat folks are happy about - Jim didn't join the Navy."
